That Japanese companies often cover the cost of commuting an unreasonable distance each day for all its staff.
Which is great, because it isn't unreasonable for those of us who choose to live in one of Japan's thousands of towns and small cities to decide that rather than squashing ourselves into tiny apartments, we would rather live in an actual house near our families and walk our kids to school in the morning.
Another thing that goes unsaid; investment in maintenance and public infrastructure cannot be avoided forever in a country prone to earthquakes.
Japan doesn't cut many corners when it comes to public infrastructure, because it would be a disaster if it did.
